Blacksmith

The blacksmith can craft upgrades to each player's main items (weapon and armor). Each item upgrade gets progressively more expensive, and higher level upgrades require your blacksmith to be leveled up.

Grindstones are used to level up the blacksmith. Grindstones can be mined from veins in caves, and can also be bought from the Enchanter for 25 Coin. Upgrading gear also give experience to the Blacksmith.

Blacksmith Levels[]

The following table shows the success rate and craft time for each blacksmith level. The grindstones required shows the number of grindstones that are required to achieve that level of blacksmith. Since your blacksmith also gains XP for crafting items, the number of grindstones required will vary.

  • These numbers are purely based on leveling with grindstones. Crafting item upgrades will decrease the number of grindstones needed.

The blacksmith can be leveled much further, at least to level 20 (6224 grindstones total). The above table has been truncated to the first level that gives a 100% success rate.

Note that there is no such thing as an infallible blacksmith. At level 14 and up you will still cast a D20 and the blacksmith will only succeed at numbers 2 to 20. Rolling a 1 will make the blacksmith fail. This means 100% is actually 95% accurate.

Although, with the object 'Loaded Dice' from the game shop, it is possible to always have a +1 on your rolls allowing an actual 100%. However, this costs 500 gold, and could prove prohibitively expensive for its relatively minimal benefit (nevertheless, this +1 on your rolls isn't useful only for grindstones but for other rolls, so it may be worth it) 

In addition to the 'Loaded Dice' object in the game shop, the 'Luck Amulet' equitable item also affects the d20 roll for the blacksmith, even if not equipped on the character being upgraded. A simple strategy is to equip a the character being upgraded with 4 greater molten rings (-20% blacksmithing cost) and have the wall hanging that reduces blacksmithing costs as well. Then have several characters who are not being upgraded equip the proper number of lucky amulets to guarantee 100% success. this way, the top cost for an upgrade is a measly 60g. Note: each luck amulet is equivalent to +5% chance. another note is that if you are doing this with Paris (50% blacksmith cost) her upgrade cost is 0g. 

Upgrading[]

Each tier costs Coin150 more than the last. With perfect rolls, this would make it a total of Coin3000 to fully upgrade a single character's items if no cost reduction is used; however, cost reduction from all sources is additive. That figure drops to Coin600 when using a set of four Greater Molten Rings (Lv. 16, Coin101 at the Enchanter Shop), and further down to Coin300 when you also have Sword and Shield.
It's generally always worth it to buy a set of four Greater Molten Rings before attempting to upgrade anything.[r 1] The only exception is Paris, as she can get the upgrades for free with just three rings (two if you also have Sword and Shield).
